Demonstrated Results:
- Kevin has facilitated collaboration in research by diverse organizations that have included health plans, medical schools, private-sector research organizations, and the federal government. He has worked with the CDC, FDA, PCORI, and others on major initiatives including the CDC Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), FDA Sentinel, and PCORnet. He has played a significant role in bringing together health plans to participate in novel safety surveillance initiatives. Beginning in 2005 to address safety concerns with meningococcal conjugate vaccine and followed in 2009 with H1N1 influenza vaccine, these efforts led directly to involvement with the FDA Mini-Sentinel and later Sentinel. Kevin continued to work with investigators at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, Duke University, and others during the start-up phase of PCORnet primarily to help establish the governance and begin engagement with payers and the networks.
- In 2015, Kevin received a PCORI Eugene Washington Engagement Award for Evaluating Feasibility & Requirements for Expanded Health Plan-based Ready Rapid Cycle Research Capacity. As part of this project he convened two roundtable discussions with stakeholders from health plans and the clinical research networks. These meetings identified key requirements for health plans to engage with PCORnet and share data with network investigators to answer questions of mutual interest. The project was documented in a white paper submitted to PCORI and in a presentation at the Health Care Systems Research Network’s 2018 Annual meeting.
- As a consultant to a non-profit, community-based health organization, Kevin made introductions to health plan and academic medical center leaders in their region. He also provided the organization with guidance on messaging to health plan leaders and other healthcare stakeholders including employers and researchers.
